Tags

Find tags, attach them to expenses, and filter by them.

Tags add labels such as Travel or Work to expenses. One expense can have several tags. Tags are created and managed in Spendly Web.

Find existing tags

spendly tags list

The list shows each tag's name and ID. Reuse an existing tag that fits what you're recording.

Tag an expense

Use your own tag names in these examples:

spendly expenses add --amount 12.50 --spent-on "Train ticket" \
  --tag "Travel" --dry-run

To set tags on an existing expense, copy its ID from expenses list:

spendly expenses edit EXPENSE_ID --tag "Travel" --tag "Work" --dry-run

Remove --dry-run to save. When editing, supplied tags replace the expense's current tags, so include every tag you want to keep. --clear-tags removes all tags. New expenses have no tags unless you supply them.

Filter by tags

spendly expenses list --tag "Travel"
spendly expenses list --tag "Travel" --tag "Work"

Repeating --tag finds expenses with all the specified tags. Run spendly expenses list --help for more filters or spendly tags --help for tag commands.
